Connie Leonard Volkman

Initially, I was inspired as a child by my parents to create with found objects, leftover fabric, and art media discovered in the basement.  I now use that same inspiration to create fiber sculpture and textiles out of unusual materials and unusable garments.  I have taught art education in secondary schools and the university level for many years but I am continually amazed by the magic of surface design, dyes, textile paint, manipulation by heat, and texture in fiber art.

My fiber art doesn't keep me warm but it does warm my heart and soul.

“Drive a nail home and clinch it so faithfully that you can wake up in the night and think of your work with satisfaction,- a work at which you would not be ashamed to invoke the Muse”
-Henry David Thoreau

In our case, it would be the needle or other fiber tool. Drive it home! And, we all thank you for your words, left here to these good folks. Invoke your Muse!
