SingingScarves

http://www.Etsy.com/shop/singingscarves

I am an Estonian silk artist specialized in creating custom orders.  I love to paint wearable art - scarves and ties with special motifs, personal notes, good wishes.  I also love to create silk paintings, I have painted on silk for over 15 years and am sure that anything could be painted on silk - portraits, landscapes, pets etc.  I also love to sing while painting, therefore I call my scarves singing scarves.
-Maria Jyrimäe

I have two Etsy shops and sell also via my professional website.  My scarves are also available in Estonian galleries and shops.
If you happen to visit Northen Europe, Estonia and Tartu, you are welcome to my silk studio on Narva mnt. 101.

Artist's statement:  Silk is a living material. It can remember good thoughts, personal wishes, and special songs.  My silk creations carry this special energy and most of them are created just for this person. So they are not only one of the kind but truly personal and special.

A customer once described my hats as "flamboyantly historical". This perfectly describes my pieces.  My work is created from thrift store purchases and vintage/antique fabrics and trims.  I hand paint, bead and otherwise mangle these fabrics to create wearable art.

All of my hats have a vintage quality whether neo Victorian, Edwardian or roaring 20's inspired but are also completely modern.  I always keep the "wearable" in wearable art.

Artist's statement:  Fashion is fleeting but style is eternal.

Ann Robinson, a.r.t.

After many years of teaching and advising students on campuses including the University of Wisconsin and Stanford, budget cuts left me without a classroom. Finally, I could focus full time on my inherent artistic interests dyeing and weaving yarn.

Today I design and weave one-of-a-kind textiles using traditional looms, respecting and preserving an ancient form of art. I have four looms in my home studio and use only natural fibers: cotton, silk, tencel (fiber made from wood), bamboo and soy.

My website, annrobinsontextiles.com, serves as a gallery and as a direct communication link. The interactive process between the artist and the interested party begins with a communication (personal, telephone, email) outlining what s/he has in mind, a piece on the site or a custom option.

Artist's statement:  My goal is to teach the art of weaving to as many people as possible because weaving teaches us much more than how to make cloth. Learning to weave provides focus and discipline and allows us to practice patience and endurance. These skills, I believe, are necessary to maintain one's sanity in this chaotic world.

Love of color, the sense of translucent depth and the surprise of the unexpected have fueled my re-entry to dyeing silk. I have spent the last few years working with a variety of printmaking techniques prior to succumbing to the urge to once again make textiles. The images are produced through a variety of resist printmaking and direct painting techniques using dyes and discharges. The richness and variety of silk surfaces, sometimes combined with stitching and fusing, is endlessly fascinating to me.

The Rainbow Girl

Contemporary Blue 'broderie anglais' (detail)
I learnt to dye my own fabrics and threads when studying for my City and Guilds level 3 diploma in Embroidery. I loved using them so much that I decided to sell some of them to other like minded people.

I now dye a variety of  cotton fabrics, viscose/wool felt, embroidery threads, silk carrier rods and lace to sell to other embroiderers and textile/fibre artists from my shop on Etsy. I find the combinations of colours which occur during the dyeing process, absolutely fascinating and always get a thrill when I see the results of a dyeing session!

Artist statement:  The colours of my fabrics and threads are one of the inspirations for my own embroideries.  I am also fascinated by vintage textiles and embroidery techniques, such as 'broderie anglais', and am exploring contemporary ways of using traditional methods.  I prefer hand embroidery, but am challenging myself to use more free machine embroidery, and also enjoy patchwork and quilting.

I belong to a group of textile artists called NINE, and am currently working towards an exhibition inspired by the sculptures in the Gibberd Garden in Harlow.

Dreamscapes Studio

"Emerald Westcoast", Framed Art Quilt by Donna-Fay Digance of Dreamscapes Studio
www.donnafaydigance.com

I create one of a kind, original art fabric hangings using hand-dyed silk and a variety of fabrics. Some of my images are quilted fabric collages while others are quilted silk paintings. I am inspired by the pristine beauty of Saturna Island with it’s vistas of shore, mountains and forests. I see the arbutus, fir and cedar trees swaying in the wind as akin to my dance and fantasy images as everything is in motion striving for freedom from gravity.  My hangings are richly machine embroidered.  The artwork can be displayed in my own open box frames, hung with a custom made hanger, doweling and picture hooks or framed with museum archival matting.

Artist statement:   Hi, my name is Donna-Fay Digance. My background is in painting and printmaking.  When I moved to this pristine west coast island, I wanted to work with more eco-friendly materials. I’ve always loved the colour, textures and patterns of fabric so now I use a variety of commercial fabrics combined with my own hand dyed and painted silk and cottons. The intricate cutting of the shapes, arranged in many layers and quilted, combined with drawing, painting and machine embroidery, helps me create this uniquely individual collection of work. Living on Saturna Island inspires me to try and capture the beauty and serenity of nature that surrounds me in this pristine, tranquil oasis.

I’m lucky enough to have my own beautiful studio, in which to experiment and create.  I enjoy working on commissions of any size. You can see the triptych I did for Parks Canada and some my other work at my website; www.donnafaydigance.com.

I love colors and whatever possible colors can go into a creation.  I sell supplies on Etsy and started out with yarns, then moved into silk sari ribbon, silk cocoons, silk sari ribbon yarns, cording and rope.  I will recycle saris and rip them into a ribbon and then create by knitting or crocheting it into something wonderful.  If I can't find a color I need I will dye it using environmentally safe dyes.

I found a fair trade supplier in India who is now working on ribbons and silk thrum yarns for me.  I decided that it would be nice to share this love and supply that I have on Etsy and it has really taken off, leading me to meet other wonderful artists.  Sitting at the table, I think back, never in my dreams imagining that I could share this with others and have it grow into a live business as it has.

I make purses, accessories and clothing that are out of the ordinary.  When you work with fibers and silk sari ribbon you step outside of the box!

Artist statement:  I hope to provide a creative vision, guidance, knowledge, motivation and inspiration to all ages.  While heightening passion for fiber art I hope to push the boundaries of silk sari ribbon use and fibers in all applications.  I aim to provide joy to those who embrace color and love wearable art.   I love recycling, bringing the old into a new creation.  Through all of this, I hope to understand what the other person sees and feels through my work.

PKL Designs

Transplanted from Jamaica to the prairies of Wyoming, I dye paint silk and create bright, flowing contemporary fiber art pieces ...wall hangings, banners, paintings, table runners, garments to order, small purses. I'm looking for folks who like to enhance their homes and offices with color. Custom commissions are always welcome.
- Phillippa K. Lack

Artist statement:  To beautify the world with my art.

The fluid surface of the silk dares me to play with its shifting textures. The fibers hold and release the tropical colors of my childhood in their own quixotic alchemy. From the sheer transparency of silk chiffon to the deeply-plied silk charmeuse, each fabric takes the precious French dyes from my brush like a willful child.

Once you’ve touched your brush to the silk, you are committed. Whether it is wall décor or clothing, there is no changing your mind, no backtracking. Brush, dye, silk … the path is unforgiving. But this immediacy allows me to flow with the moment, be completely present. An error becomes another choice, a different commitment, another path to walk. An initial vision, which at first seems to be mine, becomes its own master.

HEraMade

My name is Era Hódi (HEra). I'm a Hungarian artisan and textile artist. I live with my family in a small town nearby Szeged, Hungary in the heart of Europe. Since my childhood, I've been fascinated by the colors, folk motifs, mystical and mythical world of wonders. I make modern home furnishings and clothes for everyday wear using traditional techniques and natural materials.  They are  made by pursuing those internal expectations of creating miracles by combining patterns and colors. My style is a little antique and romantic.

Artist statement:  My confession is that the textiles are made with love, soul and heart to help all of us live in harmony in today's hectic world. During the long time of making all the handmade pieces, each one of them becomes filled with thoughts and ideas. Each color has a meaning and each motif has an emotional message. As a result, the textiles are filled with soul.  They are warming, protecting and hugging us.

Mission:  As artists we all need wonderful items for inspiration, great supplies to work with, and interesting ‘stuff’, as well as the occasional treat for ourselves.  We also sometimes need information from someone familiar with the products/items.  ITSA Studio offers all that and more, including cups of tea, good music…and classes.

Jane Deane, Naturally

I am a textile designer producing a range of items from dyed fibres for handspinners, through handspun yarns, to finished woven  items.  I teach spinning, natural dyeing and weaving throughout the UK and abroad and am co-author, with Alison Daykin, of Creative Spinning.

I love textiles, creating them, turning fibre into yarn, yarn into beautiful coloured skeins, coloured skeins into woven items. A beautifully presented feast will not always make my mouth water, but a basket of beautifully coloured wool will have me drooling in seconds!

I have a studio at the Duchy Square Centre for Creativity,  and work from there and from home. My work has been exhibited in many galleries in the UK and is currently in the Duchy Square Gallery Shop and The Art Chapel, Moretonhampstead, Devon.

Artist's statement:  In addition to my passion for creating textiles and passing on my skills, I seek to minimise the negative impact I have on the environment. I have changed my practice to using natural dyes, a restricted range of mordants and using my skills and knowledge of the dyestuffs and colours to create the effects I want rather than relying on a chemical to do it for me. I fully realise that 'natural' does not necessarily equate to 'safe' so am cautious about my materials, processes and techniques.

I use natural fibres and am actively concerned with the current Campaign for Wool, a movement supporting the greater use of wool and the reduction of synthetic fibres in the environment.

Floating Stone Silks

www.FloatingStoneSilks.com

Floating Stone is my impossible dream in action.  My name is Lynda Drury and I work with artisan enterprises in Cambodia to produce stunning contemporary silk accessories. The silks are unique pieces that embellish and style up a wardrobe. They come in spectacular luminous colours with the defining properties of hand woven, handcrafted works of art. They embody traditional artisan techniques that have jumped right out of the box! We strive towards highly marketable designer silks and a sustainable enterprise. Our designs are co-creations, using ancient Cambodian skills, their amazing fashion savvy and our design and market knowledge.

Floating Stone’s designer product line includes wraps, scarves, stoles, bags (hand bags, shoulder bags, knitting bags…), purses (evening, day, wallets, wristlets…), along with totes for everything and for specifics, like jewelry. We create everything silk, from wedding accessories to products made specifically to utilize silk scraps.

Most importantly, Floating Stone puts people before profits. We only work with those committed to a better way of life for Cambodians. We work business to business and share our lives, families, hopes and dreams. Currently, we are partnering with one of our producers in a sustainable agriculture project. The project is designed to create small vegetable gardens for food and income production as well as to develop capacity for advocacy for social justice within the community’s leadership. Our dream is to work up to producing our own silk supply, and to invite artists to travel to Cambodia to share creative embellishment techniques with our producer groups. They are hungry for new ideas and short on resources for explorations.
We are proud to tell you that many of our products are available  through the  Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. We hope to add more galleries to this list. Floating Stone Silks are also available through a  variety of Unique Retail Outlets, including Fashion and Gift Shops, Hotels, Spas and Galleries on Vancouver Island, surrounding Islands and Lower Mainland. I have been a Certified Artisan  by the Department of Tourism and  the ""Department of Culture"" of  Puerto Rico for more than 20 years.

I am fortunate to be part of the Artisan Market in ""La Placita Darsena"" as it is called,  located off  Pier 1, in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA.  I enjoy meeting travelers from all over the world who come to explore the Tropical Island of Puerto Rico.

Although I paint on burlap with acrylic paint, I consider myself a Silk Artist because my love is dyeing and painting on silk.

Each of my scarves is individually hand dyed and hand painted making them a ... one-of-a-kind ... by virtue of the process used. Batik, Tie-dye and Silk Painting are some of the techniques I love to explore and use.

Adrienne Butvinik has been an artist her entire life.  She can't remember a time when drawing, painting and making things hasn't been the reason for waking up every day! She has an extensive background in drawing, painting and ceramics, but lately her focus has been on decorating silk to wear.  Adrienne has been teaching art since 1974 and currently teaches high school crafts where she encourages young artists to express their creativity in functional artwork.  Adrienne is thrilled to see people in her wearable paintings and looks forward to learning from her daily work.

Her work can be found at the Bethel Woods Museum Shop and

Artist's Statement:  I love making art to wear !  I love color!  I love process!  When I create a silk scarf or garment I think of  wearing something LIVE.  I let my mistakes lead me and like to think of the materials and process taking over at some point and making a statement of their own.
