Billie Bags Etc.

Hello!  I'm Billie Anderson from Bigfork, Montana USA.  Bigfork is a small Village snuggled in on a Bay on Flathead Lake in Northwest Montana that is very arts oriented with many artists and galleries as well as a world class Repertory Theatre. The Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts is the premier venue for musical theater, stage productions, dance, music, and educational programming in Northwest Montana. In the lobby of the Theatre is a 9' church pew that I painted a few years ago and sold.  The buyers donated it to the Theatre.  Needless to say I was so excited to see it there and to know that thousands of people will see and sit on it for years to come.

I'm a third generation Montanan and grew up in Bigfork and have lived there most of my life for over 50 years. My three wonderful adult children were born and raised in Bigfork with two of them living here and my oldest daughter living in Colorado with her husband and my  adorable grandson.

I am a Digital Artist designing digital collages, also known as photomontages, using Photoshop CS4.  I then have my designs professionally printed onto designer fabrics where I then give new life to military surplus laptop sized messenger bags by sewing the fabric onto the flaps.  I also make beautiful pillows and pillow covers with the fabrics.  My designs are also printed in a square format at a Professional Photo Lab online and I sell them in five sizes.

I am inspired by the fabulous Artists and Designers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco Eras.  I have a collection of roaring 20’s Era Vogue books and magazine covers and also books on Erte’ a designer of the same era that I have always loved. I have focused all my time on designing and sewing for now. My plan for the future is to have silk scarves and wall hangings made using my designs.  The possibilities are endless.

I'm also an Acrylic Artist specializing in painting large wall Tapestries, Canvas Rugs, Fabric and recycled Furniture.  You can see my past painted work in this Portfolio.

I’ve been an Artist and Crafter for over 40 years.  I was a Basket Weaver for many years, owning my own shop for 10 years with my sister-in-law where we sold our handmade baskets as well as other local artists and crafters work. I’m also a  Photographer and Chandler.  I learned to sew when I was about 13 years old and made clothes and costumes for myself and for my children for years as well as making many quilts. I love creating something with my own hands and ideas and I'm always thinking of something else to create.

My challenges are to keep focused on what I'm doing at the time and my goals are always to produce the best product possible. I have always loved and bought hand made Art and Craft items for myself and for gifts.

I am always available to answer any questions you have.

Gina Pierce Design

I am a textile designer and educator, working in London, UK.

Having worked as a freelance surface designer, I now produce my own range of fabrics and wallpapers, plus a small range of bags and cushions. I sell to interior designers, architects and the public, and can produce bespoke prints from the range, or new, personalised designs.

I am inspired by history and location, researching into ancient fabrics, maps and buildings for imagery.  My work uses both digital and hand prints.  I am interested in combining the two methods of production along with aspects of 'digital craft'.

I am also the Course Leader of BA Textile Design at London Metropolitan University.

Artist's statement:  My aim is to  create beautiful and interesting designs inspired by people, places and stories from our recent histories. They can evoke memories of the past, reminders of events that may have been forgotten, and which can be celebrated and given new life.

In my own work and in my teaching, I use and promote both traditional and new technologies, and believe by combining these we enhance creative practise.

Marble-T Design, LLC /// Linda Moran

Marble-T Design, LLC is a small partnership of husband-and-wife marbling team Dean and Linda Moran. Hubby Dean started marbling after a three-month search for supplies, just so Linda could have some new fabric for a quilt.

They marble all kinds of fabrics, from cotton to silk, from linen to polyblends. They've been marbling for nearly 20 years and consider themselves good at what they do, but not nearly to the level of the Turkish masters of the art. Dean marbles and sells the fabric, while Linda gets to keep the really great stuff and quilts, making unusual fiber art that has been juried into shows around the country. Lately they have branched into designing new fabrics using marbled patterns as the basis, as well as creating Digital Marbling (TN).

Mission:  To study and learn the ancient art of marbling; to help others learn marbling by being free with help and advice, unlike the guilds of the Middle Ages; to continue to improve the creation of unique pieces of fiber art; to celebrate the planet with abstract representations of the earth.

Cultured Expressions, Inc.

As a lifelong fabricholic, I built a business around my love for African textiles in particular. Cultured Expressions specializes in the creative use of authentic African fabrics for sewing, quilting, decorating and crafts. It started with the publication of my first book, AFRICAN ACCENTS: Fabrics and Crafts to Decorate Your Home. Since then, I've been promoting my work through two more books (GLOBAL EXPRESSIONS and ON THE GO!) and by importing and selling fabrics, embellishments, kits and specialty merchandise to go with the books. Two favorites are our Jacquard Batiks and handcrafted brass adinkra symbols, both from Ghana.

I also offer related travel and tour opportunities, including our Textile and Craft Tour of Ghana (Sept 2010) and our 6th annual Quilter's Retreat, which takes place at a holistic spa in Negril, Jamaica (June 2011). In addition to helping others create their own artwork through workshops and the merchandise, I've also been carving out a bit more time to create custom handbags and commissioned wall hangings. I love what I do and I enjoy sharing it with others.

Friends are invited to my home studio in Rahway, NJ to shop-by-appointment, and a mini shop is always set up for workshops.

Artist's Statement:  Through my books, events and products, I want to offer people a unique avenue for self expression and at the same time, give them an appreciation for, and an understanding of African cultures and creativity.

Studio Jules Art

Hi, my name is Jules Rushing and I live in Lantana, Texas. I am the luckiest Fiber Artist in the world, because I’m married to “Mr. Wonderful”. I wouldn’t be able to create without the awesome support he has always given me. But I do have to confess, I have an addiction….it’s fabric.

So, what do I like to do with fabric? Dye it, paint it, quilt it. Several years ago, I was introduced to traditional quilting and then I found art quilts. Art quilting has become a passion. Being able to create color, texture, depth and visual appeal out of something that feels so wonderful and looks so luscious…. what can I say? All of my quilts are original designs and most of the fabric I use has either been dyed or painted and sometimes both! If I’m not using hand dyed/painted fabric, then I’m using batiks.

I have won a couple of ribbons with my quilts and will have one in a special exhibit this year with the International Quilt Festival. I sell my art quilts through galleries and my ArtFire studio. I also sell my hand dyed and hand painted fabrics through StudioJules on ArtFire.

Artist's Statement:   Color, I love color, bright colors. My art quilts display the color and the movement of color that I see in my head. I am fascinated by the colors in flowers and the texture they have.  Architecture comes through my creative thoughts in an abstract way. So, that is what I try to accomplish with fabric, paint and thread – color, texture, depth, dimension and an illusion. My goal is to create an image that seems ordinary and expand on it. If I see someone stop and look at one of my quilts and pause for a just few minutes, then I know I have accomplished my creative goal with that one-of-a- kind piece.

Helen Klebesadel

I am actually a painter and educator who paints and teaches about fiber arts along with all the other arts.  Most  recently I have begun actually designing fabrics myself, using my watercolor paintings as a base.

One series of watercolor paintings I have celebrates the quilts and crochet pieces that were the  under-recognized creative work  of the rural women in my family when I was 'coming up' in Wisconsin.  I especially love crazy quilts, and paint the quilts I wish I owned.

I have an Etsy store for my paintings and prints (Niceharpy.Etsy.com)  as well as in the ArtfulHome.com virtual gallery, and I currently sell my fabrics on Spoonflower.com.  I'm delighted to have a small and growing following of quilters using my fabrics, which has a nice 'full-circle' feel to it for me.

My work is available at Grace Chosy Gallery in Madison, Wisconsin and I welcome visits by appointment at my studio, Helen Klebesadel Studio, also in Madison, Wisconsin.

Artist's Statement: "My visual concerns run the gamut from careful study to poetic, symbolic and sometimes political representations of nature and human nature.”

Helen Klebesadel is an artist, an educator, and an activist.  Born and raised in rural Wisconsin, her art has become the place where she explores how we learn our deepest values.   Klebesadel is best known for her environmental and women centered watercolors. She is particularly interested in how myths and stories socialize us to have different expectations for some people than from others.  She uses the creative process to re-examine and re-present narratives that resist and contest existing power structures by revealing they exist.  Klebesadel exhibits her work nationally and internationally.

Helen’s watercolors push the traditional boundaries of the medium in scale, content, and technique.   Her paintings range in size from the intimate to the monumental. She creates paintings that are transparent watercolors on paper, starting with detailed drawings and developing the images with layer upon layer of color washes and dry brush technique mixed with occasional areas of wet-into-wet spontaneity.  She paints until the paintings tell her she is done.  Most recently she has begun transforming her images into fabric designs and she is exploring the potential  of a merger of her imagery with fiber based works.

Helen Klebesadel earned her BS, a certificate in Women’s Studies, and a MFA in art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She has taught courses and workshops on creativity, studio art, and the contemporary women’s art movement for two decades.  Klebesadel continues to learn from her art experiences and her students.  Helen taught studio art at Lawrence University for ten years before leaving to become Director of the University of Wisconsin System’s Women’s Studies Consortium in 2000. She contributed a chapter entitled Re-Framing Studio Art Critique and Practice, to the recently published text ‘New Museum Theory and Practice: An Introduction.  Klebesadel’s art and prose have been published in Femspec, Frontiers, Feminist Studies, Interweave, and CALYX.  She is a past national president of the national Women’s Caucus for Art and a current Wisconsin Arts Board member.
